Chechnya Film Festival (2003).

*Chechnya Film Festival* took place in Washington DC 15-18 September 2003, in New York 23-25 September 2003.

The documentaries presented were disallowed in Russia by Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia.

The documentaries are :

1_ The Assasination of Russia (2000) : A very thought provoking documentary related to the apartments bombings that rocked Russia in 1999. The film examines the September explosions, and focuses on the foiled bombing in Ryazan on September 22nd, 1999.

The film vividly portrays the inconsistencies in government officials' reactions to Ryazan, and their later attempts to consistently blame the Chechens. Questions about the possible involvement of the special services are raised. Sounds familiar ?.

This documentary is hard to find. For it alone, this torrent is worth the download.

2_ Terror in Moscow (2003) : A documentary made by channel 4 (UK) about the Moscow theater hostage crisis of October 23rd , 2002.

The Chechen militants did not set off any explosives or fire on their hostages once the storming got under way. All of the 129, but one, of the hostages killed in the raid had died of the effects of the unknown gas used by the Russian "special forces".

3_ Chechen Lullaby (2000) : A French independent film, made by Georgian director Nino Kirtadze, depicts the human tragedy of the Chechen "conflict" as seenthrough the eyes of four veteran reporters. Their testimonies reveal the absurdity and hopelessness of the current situation and their own frustration as they watch civilians die on a daily basis in a war largely outside the concern of the West. The documentary was awarded numerous prises, including Prix Europa, 2001, Festival au Sloop, 2001, FILA, 2002 and Adolf Grimme Award in Gold, which is considered the "Oscar" of German Television.

4_ Murder With International Consent : Directed by Krysina Kurczab Redlich, POLSAT-TV, Poland.
