Pictures of symbology in Rome's churches, sculptures and landmarks.
Rome is, of course, packed with symbology, and I managed to capture some of it in photos.
There was a lot of IHS-symbols, which is the logo of the Jesuit society, but not all of it necessarily originating from the pope's diciples, even though many of the photos are taken in Jesuit churches.
One photo is very revealing; it's from above the altar in a Jesuit church (St. Andrea i think), and depicts the eye within a pyramid with the letters IHS ontop. This was barely visibly to the naked eye, but with the assistance of my camera's zoom, i managed to get a picture of it...
I also stumbled into what seemed to be a humanist-like church in the back-alleys of Rome, probably erected in more modern times (?), and accidentaly (or not) the picture i took of it became the 666th photo of the trip! :P
In the outer parts of the city there were political posters hanging everywhere, I think there was a local election of some kind coming up, and I noticed one of the posters looked very much like the logo Obama used in his campaign, and not surprising the name on the poster was Berlusconi - make what u will of it..
Some of the pictures are pretty random, but anyhow - enjoy!
I'd appreciate some response regarding the meaning and origin of some of the symbolism here, and if anyone wants more photos from Rome, just say the word - I took more than a thousand pictures while I was there...
