A look into Canada's incredible strides with progressive politics, while at the same time the U.S. has become increasingly polarized on such issues as the Drug War and Gay-marriage. Canada now presents a sharp contrast between itself and its southern neighbor, making converts of many a U.S. citizen. Written by Juxtapose

In 2003, Canada’s reputation was going through a drastic transformation; the legalization of same-sex marriage and the decriminalization of marijuana, coupled with the influx of Iraqi war veterans and objectors, helped the nation shake its milquetoast reputation. Hosers no more, became known as a nation of smart, left-leaning hipsters. In Escape to Canada, filmmaker Albert Nerenberg (Stupidity) turns his smart, satirical eye on the emergence of Canada as a beacon of progressive politics, personal freedom and social justice.

Canada simultaneously legalized gay marriage and decriminalized marijuana, making the often derided country a sudden beacon of liberal cool. Montreal filmmaker Albert Nerenberg investigates his homeland's quick and tenuous ascent to the hip stratosphere. Variety calls Escape to Canada a "proud, benevolent, mischievous and altogether winning portrait of a country."
