French philosopher Michel Onfray has written here a very interesting thinking about the three monotheist religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, denouncing their extremely violent past and present history (September 11th) and invites us to think outside their judgemental, narrow minded, and guilt orientated laws.
“While September 11, 2001, as seen by the United States and therefore by the West, calls upon everyone to choose sides in the religious war that supposedly pits Judeo-Christianity against Islam, we might prefer to avoid choosing side and opt for a Nietzschean position.”

Onfray argues the fact that the war messages in the holy books from the three religions and this for the last twenty-five centuries calling on each sides to “slaughter of the enemy” or battle with their enemies” are not necessary the answer, but as Nietzsche would say; “we can choose not to choose”.
What he tries to explain here is by not siding with Israel and the United States doesn’t make you a Taliban supporter.
Onfray questioned the supposedly “goodness” of God by reminding us of thirty centuries until today of bloodshed, crusades, the inquisition, French religious wars, the massacre of the protestants, deaths, tortures, burning alive women, rapes, pillages and other horrendous acts, and all of this in the name of the almighty God...
Further down he argues the position of religions mixed with power, money and politics. The use of violence, fear and guilt in children upbringing, Hitler and his admiration for the Vatican and vice-versa, the invention of the holy war by the Jewish, St Paul’s neurosis, and so on.
A God Mr Onfray described as misogynist, violent, jealous, quarrelsome, intolerant and bellicose which has generated more hate and violence than peace. He denounced religion’s needs to control and alienate people’s life, to forbid science and education that don’t follow their dogmas, hatred of women, presenting chastity as a virtue and as we know and talk about it today turn priests into paedophiles, and this sick obsession with death in the detriment of the life here and now.

We can argue forever about God’s existence or not, atheists obviously don’t believe, agnostics believe in a proof, believers believes in the fantasy they read in the holy books and mostly have been educated in order to believe so. What’s important here isn’t really to find out if God exists or not as no one really knows at the end of it but the main purpose of this book is to look at the thirty centuries of religious history until today of the three monotheist religions and the massive gap between their horrible acts of violence and hate, and the supposedly messages of love and peace they are apparently sending to us...

Atheist Manifesto is bold, not for faint-hearted! But if you want to witness the dark and bloody past of religions, dare to read it!
