Harvesting Water the Permaculture Way
The DVD takes the viewer with Geoff and his students onto a 6 acre farm at Woolgoolga in NSW as they tackle the process of walking over the landscape looking at the features of the farm as they devise a creative way for the 15 tonne excavator to dig a swale and dam system through the property to harvest water passively.
We see Geoff arrive onto the site as he determines its strengths and weaknesses and with the aid of computer animation we see the plan of the site and its creative options take shape. The students then survey the site with a laser and dumpy level and peg the entire area.

“The DVD takes the viewer on a visual journey from start to finish as it shows Geoff direct the operation over the course of a three day excavation. “Nothing always goes perfectly to plan and in this DVD you will see things don’t necessarily go to plan when the site needs to be re-pegged at one stage because of problems with the dam. It’s those moments of drama that also make this an interesting DVD to watch and learn that problems do occur and when they do - the student needs to know how to fix them.”
We wanted to give people lots of information if they are teachers, students or just interested in building a Permaculture water system on their hobby farm. So we crammed this DVD with all sorts of interesting stuff including a short follow up on Greening the Desert the five minute flash story I made back in 2001.
Geoff talks about going back to Jordan seven years after the project ceased to be funded and the miraculous transformation that occurred there.
Geoff has been building swales and dams in over 27 different countries and is widely in demand internationally as a Permaculture teacher. The DVD also features a 30 minute short film of Geoff showing various Permaculture Dams and Swale systems he’s built in the USA, Vietnam and Australia.
