Pictures from Thebes (Luxor) in Egypt. Most of the photos are from the Temple in Karnak. Also some pictures from the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens, but photography was restricted in the tombs..
Although badly ruined, no site in Egypt is more impressive than Karnak. It is the largest temple complex ever built by man, and represents the combined achievement of many generations of ancient builders. The complex is a vast open-air museum and the largest ancient religious site in the world, and was built and enlarged over a thirteen hundred year period. Karnak is actually the sites modern name. Its ancient name was Ipet-isut, meaning "The Most Select (or Sacred) of Places".
