whale.to website backup 2025-09-06 UNZIPPED

I seem to have successfully created an unzipped whale.to torrent.

This uses a piece size of 16MB which should be OK for most clients.

This torrent has 77,000 files which can also be an issue, mostly in speed.

In fact, the list of filenames in itself is 2.8MB, which probably accounts for much of the 4.9MB torrent file size.

To be fair, torrents probably aren't the best way to back up websites. We should run our own web.archive.org. Maybe they are trustworthy enough to archive whale.to. Maybe they are not.

Either way well done to freement for getting an archiver to run in the first place. Maybe there are settings that will leave out some of the stray files from other sites if they are not needed.
